This timber can be found in lowland forests, valleys or lower slopes of hills. The sapwood is well-defined. Heartwood is reddish-brown to deep reddish-brown when fresh, deep chocolate brown when weathered, however there is sometimes an included phloem present (streaks of brittle, stone-like tissue). This hardy and rather inexpensive timber is best used for suitable for heavy building construction, posts, beams, joists, heavy-duty pallets, parquet and strip flooring, panelling, and heavy-duty furniture.
